What is george herbert 8th earl of carnarvon?

George Herbert, 8th Earl of Carnarvon was born on June 26, 1956, in London. He was the son of Henry Herbert, 7th Earl of Carnarvon and Jean Margaret Wallop.

He was educated at Eton College in Windsor and later at St. John's College, Oxford. After graduating from Oxford, he worked briefly in the insurance industry before inheriting the title of 8th Earl of Carnarvon in 2001, following the death of his father.

He is best known for his connection to the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922. The 5th Earl of Carnarvon, George Herbert's ancestor, had funded the expedition that discovered the tomb along with archaeologist Howard Carter.

George Herbert was a keen equestrian, owning several racehorses and serving as a trustee of the National Horseracing Museum. He was also an experienced rally driver and competed in the Monte Carlo Rally.

Tragically, George Herbert died at the age of 56 in 2001 while participating in a vintage car rally in Italy. He was survived by his wife Fiona and two children, Henry and Evelyn.
